Bio
NANCY MONTUORI STEIN
Nancy Montuori Stein began her career in the music industry working with such artists as REM, Joni Mitchell, Prince, Madonna and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. It wasn't until much later that she decided to pursue her current career and life-long dream of directing independent film projects.
It all began for the Boston native when she began working for Warner Brothers Records as Regional Promotion Manager. Nancy created innovative marketing and strategic radio campaigns for the label and its wide array of artists. Working closely with the roster, managers and promoters, Nancy was transferred to the Warner Brothers Records corporate headquarters in Burbank where she became Vice President of Special Projects.
In 2001 Nancy decided to quit her long and comfortable career in that field in order to pursue her dream of making movies. She immediately enrolled in film school in Los Angeles. Always passionate about social issues and how they relate in particular to women and children, Nancy began producing and directing the award-winning short film, "Stealing Innocence," a story about a special friendship in the Middle East between two young girls despite their cultural and religious differences. Over a hundred film festivals and twenty awards later, "Stealing Innocence" continues to be screened all over the world.
In July 2004, "Stealing Innocence" won the prestigious Silver Gryphon award atthe Giffoni Film Festival in Italy where every year 1300 young jurors from 16 countries and five continents between the ages of 6 and 19 years old have the task to judge feature and short films. "Stealing Innocence" was chosen the favorite short film with teens.
Stein also produced and directed six commercials for the Van's Warped Tour which ran on MTV and ESPN.
In 2005 Stein directed a documentary short on children growing up amid gangs and violence in South Los Angeles. "Joey" has won the first place nonfiction film award at the USA Film Festival and a documentary award from the Chicago International Film Festival. "Joey" is currently screening in film festivals across the country.
In addition, under her production company banner, American Girl Productions, Nancy is producing an animated documentary on psychedelic rock pioneers - "Os Mutantes". WGBH in Boston just awarded American Girl Productions with a grant towards the making of a short film on "Os Mutantes".
Nancy just completed her feature film - "All Ages Night," about a teenage rock band who believe one night on stage will change their lives
